What Are The 5 Principles Of Feng Shui

In a world that is constantly changing around us and becoming only more hectic, it can also be hard to keep up while staying grounded and happy in our everyday lives. The practice of feng shui is an ancient Chinese method that seeks to mitigate this by harnessing energy forces and establishing harmony in a space or environment.

The specific angle and direction of each object will help encourage positive flows of universal energy and attract great benefits such as the proper feng shui frog placement being said to bring good fortune and wealth to those around it.

The practice of feng shui is very large however, so to make it easier to understand we have compiled five of the primary principles to keep in mind when practicing Feng Shui.

1. Allow space for chi energy to flow

Chi has its roots in ancient Chinese culture and refers to the primary vital life force that runs through all living beings. It is what unites the body, mind and spirit and it is the primary energy source involved in Feng Shui that needs plenty of space to flow.

This means organizing a space so it is as open as possible, specifically you should avoid blocking any doors since this can disrupt energy flow as well as blocking any openings or windows in the room. This is a vital principle to create a clear path for the chi energy to flow naturally around you as it should.

2. Take the environment as one

According to feng shui, the heaven, earth, humans and the environment are all part of one system. If harm were to occur to any one of these features, then it would damage the system as a whole, so it is important when learning feng shui to practice appreciating all elements of our world as one especially since this is the most basic principle when it comes to feng shui.

3. Provide an even yin and yang balance

In accordance with the idea of Yin and Yang, another core component of feng shui is balance, and so when preparing a room for feng shui it is important to imitate this balance in the environment.

For example, striking a balance between being hot and cold, light and dark, open and enclosed and curved and geometric are some ways to strike the right balance when initiating the practice.

4. Find the command position

The command position refers to the layout of the room that enables a person to rest in a specific position where the energies will work for the person rather than against.

The command position is also applied to properly organize objects and symbols in an area where they can best generate things like luck and wealth.

The commanding position would be where you want to spend most of your time when you are present in that room and an area of the room where you can most clearly and visibly see everything else around you.

The feng shui guidelines suggest that you should determine where the most dominant position in the room is, and then place your bed, desk and stove in a diagonal alignment. These three pieces of equipment are the most important because they each represent an essential part of our lives in terms of our personal space, our careers and our health.

5. Learn the five elements and bagua map

Earth, metal, fire, water and wood are the 5 elements in feng shui that indicate different parts of our lives including our mindfulness, groundedness and general wellbeing. Learning about and incorporating the meaning of these elements into our everyday experiences can massively improve our quality of life.

There is also the bagua map which helps indicate what parts of our personal space or home are linked to our own circumstances. For example, the southeastern part of our home is often linked to wealth and prosperity, so following the guidance of feng shui, if you incorporate the right elements in this area such as with symbols and ornaments like the feng shui frog, then you could receive luck and an improvement in wealth very soon.

Summary

The practice of feng shui is large and expansive, but it is also very worth it for the incredible life changing effects and mindfulness of its encouragement. Always keep in mind some of these basic principles to gain a good basis for what feng shui is, and how it should be treated and respected.
