When it comes to makeup application, it’s not always as simple as it seems. It has a certain art form to make it blend in seamlessly. Which is why those in the industry are called makeup artists.

But anyone can become their own makeup artist with the right technique. Here is your Makeup 101 breakdown on how to apply under-eye concealer, lash extensions, and lip liner.

Under-eye concealer

Concealer is a broad term that can be used for all parts of your face. But under-eye concealer is tricky because it can make you either look extremely tired or perfectly refreshed. To ensure you get it right, here’s a quick breakdown of how to apply under-eye concealer:

  • First, make sure your face (especially the space underneath your eyes) is clean.
  • If you want your under-eye concealer to last throughout the day, apply the area with a face primer to that the makeup holds in place and lasts
  • Next, after the primer, put on either a foundation that matches your skin, tinted moisturizer, or a cream
  • Now you’re ready for the concealer. To lift your eyes, pat the concealer on the inner and outer corners of your eyes. You can also line your under eye with it as well
  • For the final touch, apply the concealer to any dark spots or blemishes that surround the eye area

It’s important to match your concealer as close to your natural skin color as possible, and not to cake it on. If you have wrinkles around your eyes (which, as we age, most of us do) the under-eye concealer will gently hide it. But if you put on too much then it will cause a creased look. So, be careful.

DIY lash extensions

Before you apply your DIY lash extensions, you need to do a pre-cleanse so that your lashes are oil-free and clean. Then, choose the kit color, style, and length (which should all be relative to your eye and brow shape). You’ll use the want to grab and apply your lashes with a dual-sided bond. Then, you will use a sealer to seal the look and style. Don’t rush the process, as lash extensions can be time-consuming but are worth it (after all, they last anywhere from one to two months).

If this is your first time, you may want to practice applying your DIY lash extensions at least three times before you try to sleep with them. Other good tips are:

  • Face a mirror and look down the first few times you apply them
  • You should wait for 24 hours before you get them wet
  • Put on light coats of bond, layering them, in order to achieve the best longevity

Now that you know how to apply your DIY lash extensions, you’ll be on your way to a bolder, more beautiful, and more natural look.

Lip liner

If you want fuller lips without injections, proper lip liner application can easily make your lips more lovable. This is because the purpose of the liner is to add dimension to your lips and separate them from the rest of your face. It’s an outliner. And you can make your lips look either bold or natural. It’s all dependent on the color you choose. If you want a natural look, the liner color should be a shade or two darker than your actual skin color. However, a bold look needs no such restrictions—you can go as colorful as you’d like. Whichever direction you go in, it’s best to find a pencil liner.

Now, here’s how to apply it for a seamless look:

  • Just as you did with your eyes, it’s important to remove any makeup around your lips.
  • Then, apply your desired lipstick
  • Now, using a freshly sharpened lip liner pencil, outline your lips just outside of your actual lip area, both above and below
  • Fill in the area between the lipstick and lip liner with a bit of shading with the pencil
  • Finally, reapply your lipstick or apply a final coat of gloss

Now you have fuller-looking lips without ever having to inject a single thing!

Conclusion

You can easily become your own makeup artist in these quick breakdowns. The next time you go to enhance your natural beauty, keep these Makeup 101 tips in mind and watch how much easier the process becomes. You’ll be an instant head-turner—even to yourself!
