What makes us different? What makes us the
same? What makes us afraid? What makes us
complain? What gives me the right to judge you or
me? If we accepted all sides, then we could be
free.
An archetype is a symbol universally recognized by all, such as the mother
figure, the hero figure, the warrior figure, the victim figure, the martyr figure,
etc. I felt like I was downloading a message from something bigger than
myself that translated into my very own 5 archetypes. This emerged because
I would often hear a song I just recorded and feel like I couldn’t quite take
credit, like I was channeling something, or someone else. For all of the
positive aspects of each archetype, the shadow side of the mirror is also
present. So each of my 5 archetypes represents the different sides of me, or
an energy that is within that I want to harness more of or delete from my
being. They represent, the way people may see each other, both good and
bad. They are, for the sake of being larger than life, fun and interesting and
a bit sensationalized! My hope was that everyone would resonate with one
archetype and then suddenly realize there is a piece of them in all five. And,
trust me, there are about 10 archetypes that didn’t make the cut.
As I opened to my spiritual path, I began to realize, we all struggle with
feelings about who and what we are. We all want to understand our
purpose. The archetypes I chose represent my purpose.
We have spirit guides around us all the time.
They come in all forms of thought, a memory of a loved one who is gone, a
déjàvu or synchronistic moment, a signal from nature, or just that feeling of a
light bulb going off in your head…… Often, we don’t recognize the presence
or purpose of these messages and we travel down the path feeling lost,
alone, and confused.
Where are we going?
Why are we going there?
How can we get there?
When I learned about the concept of archetypes I began to search within
myself for what I was trying to represent in this world, what were these
different energies inside me all about? How could I harness this power to
help people?
It’s almost like we are channels for something bigger than this world. We just
have to be open to it.
I believe we are all mirrors - so I wanted to make sure I was reflecting the right
energy. I felt a strong will to keep my ego in check because for me it is not
about the fame or attention, afterall, my aversion to judgment is extreme due
to my life experiences, so why would I choose a path that is so full of self-
promotion? I had to let it go, because this life is about using my gifts to help
and inspire people by sharing the knowledge that has made my life so much
more meaningful and enjoyable. I read books, watch films, hear lectures, and
have conversations that change my life…I feel like my gift of making music
has this potential. We all have this potential. We all have a special thing we
do that can positively affect others.
While producing “Aligned Archetype”, it was my goal to define what messages
and energies I wanted to share with the world. For so long I just wanted to
expose what is wrong in the world and open eyes, but I soon realized that I
may be putting too much energy into the anger and frustration of what’s
wrong, instead of the positive energy to make change. Often a war against
something, gives the something the power to exist. It was then that a vision
came to help represent the many sides to me and my voice. I didn’t need to
let go of any part of myself but I needed to make sure that the representation
was accurate. Some of these sides were actually named by other people
who saw me in a certain light - I reworked the ideas and created the
archetypes that I felt were all working together energetically to create my
music and support my purpose here.
I feel that we all have these energies but, It
is how we express them that make us unique.
With the help of the incredibly talented Laura Petrilla (misslphotography.com)
and local fashion and jewelry designers, I was able to do photoshoots to
capture the spirit of each archetype to share with all of you. My site was
another vision that came once I realized I would need to find a way to explain
this to everyone in the form of an artistic statement. The quiz on my
homepage is an attempt to have a little fun in helping you choose the
archetypal energy that best suites you.
Ironically or NOT!, the week I after I had finished the album and the site was
being wired, I was reading a book called, “Everything Matters, Nothing
Matters – For women who dare to live with exquisite calm, euphoric creativity
and divine clarity” by Pittsburgh author, Gina Mazza. I have been blessed to
actually meet Gina and will be working with her in the future. Her book has
inspired me and I just had to share the synchronicity regarding archetypes.
This small paragraph in her book confirmed I was on the right path. Gina
writes,
“While I tend to think of spirit guides as inspiration that I draw upon from
beyond myself, archetypes seem to arise from within, more like reconnecting
with some long-lost part of myself. They are truly an expression of in-sight.
When I met with mythologist, futurist and prolific author Jean Houston, PhD,
we had a lively chat about archetypes (she is brilliant on this subject) and the
fact that as we evolve, we gain understanding that everything we need is
already inside of us. ‘We have such complexity going on beneath the surface
of our consciousness,’ Jean said. ‘Of the psychological genres we have
within us, the ego is but one image of the multiple images of the psyche. We
have many, many personas. And we can expand who we are so we have
more of a crew to draw upon when we need it.’ To illustrate, Jean gave us
this example: ‘I have 22 published books and about 70,000 unpublished
pages moldering on my shelves,’ she explained. ‘But the thing is, I can’t
write. I can’t write at all. When I begin to write a book, I call on my muse,
which happens to be the chef. I’m a VERY good cook.’
Archetypes encourage our individuality to
emerge. I hope this site and my music give
